You can make the perfect body scrub right at home in your kitchen.
Most of these ingredients contain similar properties. When combined, can create a powerful source of exfoliation, collagen, and antioxidants.
Let’s look at the benefits of each food item to see how they can improve the appearance of your skin.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil:
Contains fatty acids which help hydrate the skin by helping to retain water. EVOO helps moisturize the skin without clogging your pores and reduce inflammation. EVOO contains amino acids that when combined with other collagen-contributing products, can help to strengthen and tighten the skin.
Coffee:
The caffeine present in coffee can help reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and protect against UV damage and stimulate collagen production. Coffee grounds are good for exfoliation. It can get rid of cellulite, redness and discoloration.
Coconut Oil:
Natural moisturizer.
Sugar:
Perfect exfoliator to get rid of dead skin cells and reveal a new layer of skin.
Lemon:
The citric acid in lemons can exfoliate the skin by removing dead skin cells. Lemons contain vitamin C that can help reduce pigmentation, lighten and add radiance to your skin. Vitamin C can also prevent cell damage and boost collagen production.
Honey:
Honey draws moisture from the air and into the skin, which can make the skin feel softer and more supple. The antioxidants in honey can help protect the skin from damage.
My DIY Scrub
Here’s my homemade body scrub made with all the food items mentioned above. I was able to add as much sugar and coffee as I like to get the texture that I needed. My skin felt amazing after using it. I prefer my homemade scrub over my store bought one because mine is way more coarse.
Caution!
Some of the ingredients can make the tub slippery and cause dirt to stick to the tub’s surface. Be careful not to slip!
